Just bought one of these and, in spite of a few mediocre reviews I'd read here, have to say that I'm glad I took the chance -- it works wonderfully. Wanted something smaller for myself but large enough to hold a roasting chicken. This is it. Put a 4.5 pound roasting chicken in yesterday morning (on top of a baking potato cut in chunks, some mini carrots and a small onion cut into chunks - surprised that it all fit!), sprinkled the top with some tarragon, and set it for 10 hours on low. Later got an invitation to dinner so off I went. Came home to find that it had finished cooking & shifted to the "warm" setting, just as promised. Steaming hot (I wonder if the reviewer who said their food did not cook didn't have a damaged cooker). I very much like this change to a slightly smaller cooker. Next will be stew meat and veggies with a can of beef broth... and then pork chops drizzled with bbq sauce. A slow cooker makes me eat better without any effort at all! Buy it - you'll like it.

Perfect for easy meal time or serving warm snacks at your next party.

Crockpot SCCPVM600H-BI Crock-Pot Metallic Black Slow Cooker with Hinged Lid, 6 quart, Black

This basic crockpot -- the only extra is the hinged lid -- is a great replacement for my 20 year old Rival Crockpot that looked like something bought in the 1950s. This one has a sleek black look, from the metal exterior to the oval ceramic insert to the hinge and handle on the lid.

The Crockpot has three heat settings -- low, high, and warm. The low setting runs hotter than the one did on my old crockpot, which means liquids start to simmer in about an hour, but it doesn't get nearly as hot on low as my mother's Cuisinart cooker does. The hot setting can cook food faster, although some foods will get tough when cooked at higher temperatures, so use caution. The warm setting is great when you've already cooked something and want to keep it at temperature until you're ready to serve.

Like most basic Crockpots, this one is made of lightweight aluminum that is disguised by the black paint. I like the oval shape, which makes it more conducive to cooking a chicken or pork loin than a circular one is. The lining is heavyweight stoneware that can lift out and go in the oven or dishwasher, and there are small grooves to let out some of the steam that builds up inside the crock. The top is dishwasher-safe but not oven-safe, so the liner and top cannot be used as a Dutch oven the way other brands can be used. Despite this small limitation, I really like the hinged top since I don't have to dirty the counter when I remove it to get to the food inside. The steam washes down the lid and right back into the pot. Plus, the lid has a gasket to keep moisture inside instead of running along the exterior of the pot. To remove the lid for cleaning, you merely grasp it and lift straight up. The only thing attaching the lid to the unit is the plastic that fits inside the opening.

If you are looking for a basic crockpot without programming or Bluetooth function or a digital display or whatever bells and whistles they put on slow cookers these days, this is an excellent choice.

Crock-Pot SCCPVL600-B Cook 'N Carry Oval Manual Slow Cooker, 6-Quart, Black

This 6 Quart pot is for a large family. A crock pot must be filled at least half way because the heating element runs half way up around the side wall and not the bottom. This produces the best cooking of a crock pot. The lid has a rubber gasket that keeps the heat in and starts the simmer cooking process faster. The lid clamps are for transport and not cooking. I use mine for chili and it works great but produces a lot of leftovers. If you don't have a large family I suggest a smaller pot.
I also own a Hamilton Beach 5 Quart Crock Pot and it doesn't compare by a mile to this Crock Pot. This one is so much better constructed than the Hamilton Beach, it has rubber non skid pads, uses actual nuts and bolts assembly, larger carry handles, and the crock pot fits tighter in the base. If you plan on making large meals this is the right pick.

Cook it, lock it and go. The Crock-Pot Cook & Carry Slow Cooker is designed for portability by helping to prevent spills during transport. A secure locking lid and rubber gasket create a seal to keeps food in, even over bumps and turns in the road. You arrive relaxed, without worry or mess. The Crock-Pot Cook & Carry Slow Cooker is convenient for potlucks, family gatherings, tailgating, parties and more just about anytime you need to transport food prepared at home. Features manual dial with HIGH and LOW cook settings and WARM setting to keep food at ideal temperature. Removable stoneware conveniently doubles as a serving dish. Dishwasher-safe stoneware and glass lid make clean up quick and easy. 6 quart capacity.

Crock-Pot SCCPVL605-S 6-Quart Programmable Cook & Carry Oval Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel

I bought one of these Crock Pots locally about a month ago. I brought it home and washed the stoneware insert thoroughly, and then made a pot roast with vegetables. It made the house smell great during cooking, and my family commented on how tender the meat was. Unfortunately, everyone noticed a slight "plastic" taste to the food. I was surprised and disappointed since I made sure to thoroughly wash the insert in hot water. I chalked it up to the fact that I was using it for the first time. Well, after six separate meals with thorough washing in between, each and every meal has had this plastic taste to it, no matter what I made. I have to assume that the black paint on the stoneware insert is somehow leeching into the food. I contacted Crock Pot at their website and sent them a message describing my dilemma and they responded by apologizing and offering to send me a new unit, free of charge. Now that is what I call customer service! I haven't received the new unit yet but when I do I will wash it and then make another meal and cross my fingers that the food doesn't taste like plastic. As an aside, my friend has the exact same model purchased a few weeks before mine and he has had no problems with his. I will update this review after I cook my first meal in the replacement unit once it arrives.

Edit: I received my new Crock Pot a few days after I wrote the above review. I washed it thoroughly and made another pot roast with vegetables the following day. This one cooks perfectly and with no plastic taste. The embossed lettering on the bottom of the new stoneware insert is stamped nice and clear. On the old one the letters were sort of unclear like there wasn't enough pressure during the stamping process. Maybe there was a manufacturing issue that caused the old one to leech that plastic taste into the food. Whatever the reason, this one is perfect and I am very satisfied with this product and truly impressed with Crock Pot's customer service.

Crockpot SCCPCCM250-BT Mini Casserole Crock Slow Cooker, 2.5 quart, White/Blue

Wow, I really like this smaller/flat cooker. With just my husband and me we don't always need a large one. And the shallowness of this one makes it possible to prepare a variety of different dishes not suitable in the deep cookers. Today I cooked just 10 Swedish meatballs, Day after tomorrow I will be making us slow cooked lasagna. Not too small/ not too large/ just right. I was also satisfied with the $30/no shipping.

The Mini Casserole Crock makes dining for smaller dinners, potlucks and parties easier than ever. It's 2.5-Quart capacity is the perfect size and shape to prepare everyone's favorite casserole dishes, lasagna, mac & cheese and desserts. With portability in mind, the Mini Casserole Crock uses our Cook & Carry locking lid system, so you can conveniently take your dish on the go without spills or mess. The removable stoneware is made for versatility too! It can go from countertop to tabletop to simplify serving and can also be placed in a conventional oven to cook and warm food. It's ideal for entertaining to when oven space is limited or when you just don't want to turn on your conventional oven; and, of course, for delicious, make-ahead meals you and your family can come home to.
